Municipal Law
Fluegel Law Firm has a strong tie with local communities and governments and for decades has represented cities and townships throughout Dakota County. The Firm currently represents the Cities of Hastings, Miesville, Rosemount and Vermillion, the Hastings Economic Development and Redevelopment Authority, and Vermillion Township. In representing both statutory and home rule charter cities and townships, our lawyers serve as both general and special counsel and provide litigation services when needed.
Our attorneys provide a wealth of knowledge in land use matters including zoning, platting and subdivision regulations; licensing and regulation; eminent domain and takings; development and redevelopment; real estate acquisition and sales; and purchasing and contracts. Our lawyers work closely with city and township staff and attend regular council and board meetings to advise elected officials and staff on questions relating to the open meeting laws, procedure, the Minnesota Data Practices Act, and adoption and enforcement of ordinances.
Fluegel Law Firm regularly advises local governments on matters relating to utilities and telecommunications affecting their municipalities, including cell phone towers, easements, gas and electric franchises, and newly developing wind and solar power regulations. Our lawyers also contribute to comprehensive plans and practice in the area of environmental law dealing with wetlands, shorelands and flood plains and interactions with local watershed districts.
Other municipalities and law firms often look to Fluegel Law Firm to act as special counsel when their existing attorney or law firm is unable to act. Fluegel Law Firm is committed to providing the highest level of representation to existing municipal clients but the Firm remains willing to selectively accept new municipal clients and in doing so, understands the importance of fiscal responsibility and efficiency in representing governmental entities.
